'The Iranian Holocene' is a research network bringing together projects that investigate the palaeoclimate and palaeoenvironment in Iran, mainly during the Mid- and Late-Holocene. The focus of the projects ranges from archaeological to geomorphological questions, considering changes in settlement patterns, site abandonment, alluvial events and the interaction between tectonics, environment and human habitation.
Most projects have a local or micro-regional focus. The network hence allows to build a picture for the whole of Iran, thus providing the context for individual projects.
Although the focus is on the Holocene in Iran, investigations also consider older periods and bordering areas.
The network offers its participants a web platform for sharing project information and disseminating results. Funding applications are currently being prepared to organise workshops and network meetings.
